JOB DESCRIPTION

General Assistant (Immersive Experiences & Retail)

Magic Alley & The Crimson Chamber – Stratford-upon-Avon

About Us
Magic Alley and The Crimson Chamber create immersive, story-led experiences for both families and adults. From magical mysteries and interactive events to darker, more theatrical storytelling, our venues are built on atmosphere, character, and exceptional customer experience.

We are now looking for a General Assistant to join our small, trusted team. This is a varied, people-facing role ideal for someone who enjoys immersive environments, working with the public, and being part of something a little unusual.

The Role
This is a part-time, flexible position supporting both Magic Alley (family-focused) and The Crimson Chamber (adult, darker themes). Duties will vary depending on events and footfall and may include:

  • Hosting and supporting immersive experiences
  • Welcoming guests and managing customer flow
  • Assisting in the retail space, including sales and product knowledge
  • Supporting event set-ups, resets, and general venue presentation
  • Answering customer questions with confidence and warmth
  • Occasionally stepping into light performance or character-led hosting when required

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety and thrives in an environment where no two days are the same.

Who This Role Is For
You’ll be a great fit if you are:

  • Confident and comfortable interacting with both adults and children
  • Calm, reliable, and able to think on your feet
  • Comfortable in spooky, theatrical, or darkly themed environments
  • Happy to work weekends and evenings (essential)
  • Flexible with availability across the year

An interest in immersive theatre, events, retail, or storytelling is a strong advantage.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in customer-facing roles
  • Confidence hosting groups or speaking to an audience
  • Interest or experience in marketing, social media, or promotion
  • Retail experience

Practical Details

  • Part-time, flexible hours
  • Initial 12-month contract
  • Probation period: 3 months
  • Hourly rate: Above minimum wage, dependent on experience and skill set
  • Location: Stratford-upon-Avon
